Innside the High Cotton Inn: our first night in New Braunfels

High Cotton Inn Gruene

When we arrived in New Braunfels, our family was exhausted from packing, moving, driving and two closing appointments. Mi Amor and I were in desperate need for some relaxation before the next wave of chaos hit – moving into the new house.

After we left the title company, we strolled through downtown New Braunfels (I discovered children’s consignment shop Twice Upon a Time, and I can’t wait to go back and shop!) before check-in time at our temporary home for the night.

Gruene Lake Village

We arrived in Gruene Lake Village and we were so happy to see all the great things to do, truly steps away from the High Cotton Inn. The sleepy vibe with nearby dining and shopping was just what we needed.

Hotel accommodations Gruene Texas

High Cotton Inn is charming, private and very cozy-Texas style. With over-sized suites, there is enough space to comfortably call this place your home for long periods of time. The environment is serene and the suite is decked out with all the amenities. The High Cotton Inn is sure to be a traveler’s perfect spot to hang their hat for a night…or five.

Our studio suite was amazing and accommodated us perfectly. There are four suites total at the High Cotton Inn, and we stayed in Suite 3. There are two private rear entrances, one to suites 1 & 2, the other to suites 3 & 4. Suites 3 & 4 share a lovely balcony with seating across from the front doors.

The Purple Chair New Braunfels

Gruene Lake Village was an absolutely perfect area for us to stay in. We didn’t have to leave or drive at all! We ventured into The Purple Chair, a local children’s bookshop, where BabyCoolJ was entertained for a few hours. After, we walked over to The Gruene Door for a quick bite.

Dinner was perfect – we sat outside on their patio and had appetizers and drinks, something we don’t do often because we always have to drive. This is another amazing part of staying at the High Cotton Inn, a walkable community with anything you need. (well, except diapers, which of course we ran out of!)

Speaking of walkable, the following morning Mi Amor and BabyCoolJ picked up some coffee and breakfast at Kora Kora, just behind the inn, while I relaxed a bit in our room. Those 10 minutes were the best break I could have asked for before the moving came. I actually wrote most of this post then, while everything was fresh on my mind!

And, because our accommodations were so comfortable, we came up with a great game-plan that morning. Mi Amor went over to our new home and worked with the movers, while BabyCoolJ and I spent the morning in our room watching TV and hanging out with my parents who came to town to visit and help us settle in. They were pretty jealous of our room after staying at another “drab” hotel. Glad they could enjoy it with us for a couple of hours before check out!

Here are a few additional things to note before your stay at the High Cotton Inn:
  • Bring your own coffee.
  • Bring your own toiletries.
  • While our toddler enjoyed it, the Inn would be best suited for couple or solo travelers. There were breakable items I had to secure and no separation of space for bedtime.
  • Check in is 4pm and check out is 11am.
  • The suite we stayed in does not have room darkening curtains, which we are accustom to. It was bright all night because of lights outside, so baby cool J fell asleep 3 hours after bedtime and woke up at 4:30am. We would have been fine otherwise, but worth noting!

Enter as strangers, leave as friends

Staying at the High Cotton Inn was a perfect rest stop for us. I highly recommend it for a romantic getaway or staycation. And, I hope we can stay there again sans toddler!

  1. Lisa! This sounds so nice and calming, I know my mom would love to stay here when she comes to visit us from up north! I’m definitely going to look into it! Thanks for the tips too, those are good to know!

    1. Absolutely! It’s a great spot, and Gruene Lake Village is a perfect area to stay. Thanks for stopping by, Marisa!

  2. Lovely pics. I enjoy the different experience you get staying in B&Bs/boutique hotels rather than chains. I know I would enjoy a place like this with the Husband and(as you suggested) no kids! 🙂

    1. Me too, I am such a fan of this type of stay. We have traveled all over the Texas hill country this way and really enjoy it. Hope you can make it out sometime!

    1. The hardwood floors were a lovely touch! The whole rustic chic ambiance was perfect. And agreed, the coffee at Kora Kora was way better than anything I could have brewed! 🙂
